Touring Germany by Coach

Any holiday in Deutschland is a magical experience that is sure to leave you spellbound. But to truly enjoy every moment in this beautiful country, you really can’t look past one of Albatross Tours’ many German itineraries. Smaller groups and longer city stays enable you to see and experience more, while our knowledgeable Tour Managers help you discover the country’s best-kept secrets.

Travelling with Albatross Tours means the language barrier won’t cause you any strife. However, if you have learnt or are learning German, you’ll have countless opportunities to practise your vocabulary and conversation skills with friendly residents. When you’re not enjoying a chat with the locals, you might be getting to know your fellow travellers; our customers regularly form lasting friendships by bonding over their shared experiences in Germany.

Our tour groups also enjoy the added convenience of having directions, travelling and the itinerary organised for them. This leaves you free to immerse yourself properly in the culture and atmosphere of the German cities and towns we visit, as well as allowing you to relax and debrief in between attractions.

When to Visit Germany

Typically, summer is the best season for a tour in Germany, with the months of May to September seeing the most visitors from abroad. It is during this period that the country enjoys longer days and warmer temperatures that are perfect for holiday relaxation. Cool changes and rainfall are somewhat common, so it’s wise to pack an extra layer and rainwear just in case.

On the other end of the spectrum, the December-January holiday season presents travellers with an entirely different but equally magical experience. While the weather is cooler, the fabulous Christmas markets and other festivities are well worth the chill. Additionally, fewer tourist numbers make certain sites a lot more enjoyable.

German Culture

Things to Know Before You Go

Here are some important details that you should know before you go:

  • Language – Over 95% of German locals speak (you guessed it) German. Luckily for tourists in Germany, over half of the locals also speak English. While you can get away with not speaking any German, we highly suggest learning the basics at the very least. Not only will this make everyday travel much easier, it will enrich your experience and give you a deeper understanding of German life.
  • Money – Germany’s currency has been the euro (€) since 2002, when it replaced the Deutsche Mark. When making transactions during any of our Germany tours, you can expect to come across 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, €1 and €2 coins, and €5, €10, €50, €100, €200 and €500 banknotes. While many establishments will happily accept major credit cards for payment, there are also quite a few that won’t. If you prefer to stay on the safe side with some cash in your back pocket, don’t fret; there are plenty of ATMs throughout Germany and most will happily convert your credit into euro notes.
  • Time zone and daylight – Travelling Germany in the summer (June to September) will give you almost 17 hours of daylight from pre-5am to 9:30pm. In winter, days shorten to eight hours on average and the sun can set by 4pm. Germany runs on Central European Time (GMT+2), meaning it’s one hour ahead of London and nine hours behind Sydney time.
  • Electricity – Germany uses a supply voltage of 230V and 50Hz. This is transmitted using Type C and F plugs. These two plugs both use two round pins to enter the wall socket.
