Lecce

Next up on our list is the archaic wonder that is Lecce – one of the most beautiful cities in Puglia. Despite the city’s small size, Lecce features plenty of opportunities for ample exploration.
If you’re an ancient history buff, then you’re in luck! Lecce is home to an ancient Roman amphitheatre. Once seating up to an impressive 14,000 spectators across its two tiers, only the lower tier remains today. Having said that, be sure to see if there are any concerts happening in this ancient arena.
The Lecce cathedral is a sight to behold, especially when it’s illuminated at night. Originally built in 1144, then rebuilt hundreds of years later, the cathedral embodies the distinct and decorative baroque style that Lecce is known for. You can also pay a small fee to go up the elevator for a bird’s eye view of Lecce, right from the cathedral’s bell tower.

Polignano a Mare

Perched high atop the limestone cliffs and overlooking the clear waters of the Adriatic, Polignano a Mare is the perfect stop on your Italian trip if you’re looking for a beachy retreat. Though this town is small, its picturesque streets and scenery allow for ample discovery. You can grab an Italian coffee and wander the streets, maybe stopping by the beach. Or you can buy some of the town’s tantalising ice cream, which is the perfect treat on a hot summer night. The cliffs that overlook the crystal-clear waters give thrill-seekers the opportunity to do some free-form diving.
